The City of Milford Department of Public Works Unit, consisting of 135 employees, voted nearly unanimously to dump AFSCME and join UPSEU. The vote was conducted by secret ballot election by the Connecticut State Board of Labor Relations (CSBLR). The official vote results of the March 12th election were as follows: UPSEU received 102 votes while AFSCME only received one vote.
The Milford DPW members were disgusted with the lackluster representation (no visibility in the workplace, failure to return phone calls, etc.) they had received from AFSCME over the years. They heard firsthand from current UPSEU members within the Milford Public Schools of the high quality of representation that they received.
The Milford DPW employees are the second unit to join UPSEU in the City of Milford this year. They join the Milford Supervisors who voted earlier this month to join UPSEU.
We welcome both the Milford DPW employees and the Milford Supervisors to the UPSEU family!
